If you are setting up your Microsoft email on your profile page, even if all of your details are correct, you may encounter an error. This article explains how to deal with that.
Microsoft recommends turning off SMTP AUTH for most of your organisation. The only exception is for those mailboxes (users' email accounts) that still need it.
There are two ways to control SMTP AUTH in your organisation:
You can turn it off (or on) for your entire organisation. This is known as the 'organisation setting'.
You can also control it for each individual mailbox. This is known as the 'per-mailbox setting'. This setting can override the organisation setting.
